As Elvis (and I’m sure many others) famously sang, why can’t every day be like Christmas? Sure, I like the idea of the Christmas season—peace on Earth, goodwill toward man but my inner Grinch reminds me that people resume being jerks on January 2. I only wish people had a cup of Christmas cheer to last the entire year. Why be civil and generous to each other only during the holidays? I’m sure everyone could use frequent common courtesy and the disadvantaged could benefit from some help at other times throughout the year.
Since I know the aforementioned cup of Christmas cheer will turn acidic soon enough, I will enjoy this slightly nicer world if only for a brief time. Just like Frosty’s lifespan, kindness toward others is unfortunately fleeting.
